The Wild Christmas Reindeer by Jan Brett

Stars: ****

I read this weeks ago but forgot to review it. I read it for the Celebrate the Author Challenge.

This is a very sweet story about a girl who lives near the North Pole who’s job it is to collect the reindeer from the wild and teach them how to work together to pull Santa’s sleigh. It’s refreshing to have a different kind of Christmas story. Although Santa is in this book, he’s not in it till the very end and the focus is on the girl. I love that on each page, their is a sidebar with a countdown to Christmas, showing elves doing various jobs to make toys. I think my daughter loved looking at the sidebars better than paying attention to the story! A great Christmas read we’ll be reading again next year.

Gingerbread Baby by Jan Brett

This is the story of the Gingerbread man with a few changes. In this book, the man is a baby and he is not eaten by a fox in the end like he is in most versions. I won’t tell you what happens to him, wouldn’t want to spoil it!

The story is cute, not too long and the illustrations (as with all Jan Brett books) are beautiful.
