Subtitle: A Recovery Plan for Weary Souls
Thomas Nelson (2016)
Christian Life/Women’s Issues
Summary: Women are overcommitted, overconnected, overburdened, and overwhelmed. Their lives are full, but oddly, their souls are empty. They are aching for a bold challenge—one that will bring rest to their longing souls. Rest Assured is for the daring women who truly want to disrupt their current patterns and see lasting change.
This book was perfect for me. I need to learn how to rest sometimes, while other times I think I rest too much. But for the part of me that is stress and overwhelmed, this book has a straightforward plan.
The book is divided into two parts, the first part is like an intervention with four chapters titled The Badge of Busyness, The Exhausting Pursuit of Happiness, Tethered Souls and Worried Sick. This section helps us to understand where we are in our lives and what needs to be addressed. Also why being overcommitted, overconnected, overburdened and overwhelmed is a real problem.
The second part is the start of a recovery plan. Learn about making Time for God, Time for Solitude, Time for Leisure and Time for Others. Just looking at those titles, I would think I know enough about those subjects that I wouldn’t need to read a book, but I would be wrong. I learned a lot that I thought I knew but really didn’t.
Finally the book includes a Rest Stop section at the end of each chapter which is questions used for self reflection and can also be used if reading with a book group. There are spaces to write your answer write in the book if you so choose. The end of the book has a 30-day Restitution Plan and a list of 100 Ways to Give It a Rest. The 100 ways are lots of things that are everyday things but that you might not think of as restful, but they are if you really think about it. If you are bored, it would also be a good list of suggestions for that.
I plan on following through the Restitution Plan starting tomorrow.
