Fungi Are… More Than Mushrooms
This fungi picture book with beautiful illustrations is an amazing look into their world. It’s listed as ages 3-8 but I learned TONS from the book and enjoyed reading it. I had no idea how much I didn’t know about fungi till I read it. Seriously. The title fits the book perfectly.
This is not a “what are fungi” type book exactly. It’s hard to explain but it’s not laid out like a report. It’s more whimsical. Each page says Fungi are this or they do this and then gives more explanation down below.
Here is a page to show you the layout and the beautiful illustrations by Vivien Sárkány.

At the end of the book is a little game of did you spot these images. So it inspires you to read the book again and again to find the pictures.
Proceeds from this book also support reforestation and the Central Texas Mycological Society. Yes I had to look that up too. “Mycology is the scientific study of fungi, a diverse group of organisms that includes mushrooms, yeasts, and molds.”
The ONLY thing that could have made the book better is some pronunciation hints for a few words as I was reading. But it’s no big deal.
